Symposium presentations

The symposium - along with the 2013 National Conference -has come and gone and CDAA is thrilled with the attendance and feeback from the event.

When the idea of the symposium was born, organisers were hoping for about 40 registrations - it ended up being well over 100 and we could not be happier with the progress that was made and the conversations that were started.

A special shout-out goes to our lovely presenters who came to Sydney from all corners of this world and who really made the symposium the success it was.

Please see below the presentations from the day for your reference.

We would also love to keep the conversation going - so please share what you thought of the day, what you got out of it, and also what other questions you might have as a result of the day so we can build on what we started last week.

  1. Hi Everyone,

During Tannis' presentation she asked for resources that we might have created.

Here are two that might be useful to Career Advisors in schools that ACU hosts:

    1. On the Job: http://apps.acu.edu.au/onthejob/ This website targets students in Years 5 - 10. It has information about different jobs; online and offline activities around that job; professional links; YouTube videos; Mobile apps; and, a section called "Life on the Job" where parents and community can add information about their pathway to a particular job. Also, Historic people and their career pathway and achievements are outlined. There are "detective" games that the students can undertake to learn more about each job described. The emphasis is on fun while giving detailed information.

    2. Careers' WebQuest: http://apps.acu.edu.au/careerswq/ This is a higher order thinking skill activity for students in Years 9 - 12 and based on the reality tv show: The Apprentice. Students are put into teams and provided with "clients" - their personal and professional backgrounds - and they are to think about which jobs would be suitable for that person from four different perspectives: TAFE/Diplomas; University; Open employment; and, VET. Each "client" has a life hiccup occur where the students might need to reassess the suitable jobs. Finally, students are to undertake this process for themselves to determine the range and breath of jobs suitable for them personally. All Internet Resources and a Teacher's Guide with step by step Lessons plans are provided.
